Description

The home of horse racing (and the original home of polo) in Barbados. In the bottom left of the photo can be seen historic buildings such as the old regimental barracks which are now the home of the Barbados Defence Force, and the old Officers Club with clock tower which now houses the Savannah Club and the offices of the Barbados Legion.

At bottom center you can see the old fort walls, beneath which was the powder magazine, as well as the old road that used to be public access to the Drill Hall beach.

Massive East Coast swell +

The December 2009 North Swell brought some pretty large waves to the East Coast - this photo was taken from an elevated spot along the East Coast Road (Ermie Bourne Highway)

Old Mill Wall in St. Peter +  


Canon Powershot G3 - March 2005

Description

Barbados is covered with these old abandoned "mill walls", used to crush sugar cane, powered by the wind. Some (sitting in occupied plantation yards) have been turned into apartments or storage, but most are abandoned and will eventually all disappear.
