Harrison Point Lighthouse, St. Lucy - Fresnel Lens +

Taken Jan 21, 2011 with a Nikon D700 and Nikon 24-70 f/2.8 lens

Description

The remaining bits of the Fresnel Lens that used to focus the beam of the lighthouse lamp - the lamp would have been totall enclosed within four of these lenses, and would have rotated to produce the "sweeping" effect of the lighthouse.

The other half of the lens enclosure is in pieces on the ground at the base of the lighthouse.

Also visible is the US Navy listening post / prison.

Both now sit abandoned, rusting and vandalized, like so many of our historic buildings.
